Chat the Planet: Immigration (CLIP: Describe)

Published 2003

With 20 million stateless people in the world, immigration and refugees are a burning issue globally. Australia and the United States have some of the harshest refugee policies in the world, with Australia having been declared by Amnesty International as having the worst detention centers in any first world country. Chat The Planet brings the youth of these two continents together to discuss how immigration is managed, the effect it has had on their past, and the role it will play in their future. The show covers a range of topics from the Tampa incident in Australia and the Elian Gonzalez case in the United States, to more personal stories of what it means to be an immigrant and the moving story of the execution of an Iranian grandfather.
